Visit to the Saint Victor Chapel in Castel
Nestled on an oppidum overlooking the territory of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, the Saint-Victor-de-Castel chapel is a jewel of local heritage. Built in the 12th century, it bears witness to the region's religious and rural history, in an exceptional natural setting. This remarkable site offers an immersion in Romanesque architecture and medieval spirituality.
Today, the building shows obvious signs of deterioration. The proposed tour aims to introduce visitors to this unique monument while raising awareness of the urgent need for its restoration. All proceeds will be donated to the chapel's preservation project, in order to preserve its authenticity and memory.
Please note: the chapel's original altar is preserved and on display at the Musée d'Art Sacré de Pont Saint-Esprit. The remains discovered during archaeological excavations can be viewed in the repository located on Rue Paul Langevin in Bagnols-sur-Cèze.
Come in large numbers to support this endangered heritage, and immerse yourself in a page of local history that is just waiting to be revived.
